Farm House

Farmhouse, a suite at the boutique hotel Stonehouse, is located in Ubud, Bali. Surrounded by dense jungle, rice terraces, and an organic farm, the design combines traditional Indonesian architecture with a contemporary approach.

The inspiration comes from the Gladak, a traditional wooden house from Java, Indonesia, originally built in teak with ancestral joinery techniques that required no nails. In Farmhouse, this idea is reinterpreted through the use of reclaimed wood and large glass openings across the front and side façades, allowing natural light to fill the interior while strengthening the connection with the surrounding landscape. This rectangular volume serves as the bedroom, with a warm interior atmosphere defined by exposed timber structure and handcrafted wooden furnishings.

Extending from it is an additional bamboo structure that houses the bathroom. Its roof takes on an organic form and is finished with copper tiles, while loosely arranged bamboo poles create semi open walls that provide privacy while maintaining openness and connection with nature.

A wooden deck projects into the landscape, offering views of the rice fields, where farmers guide ducks through the water and harvest their crops, reinforcing the authentic rural character of the setting.
