Studio Lodtunduh

Studio Lodtunduh, located in the quiet village just south of Ubud, Bali, was conceived as both a workspace and a living expression of openness, adaptability, and care. More than the Pablo Luna Studio office, it embodies a design philosophy rooted in sensitivity to place, material honesty, and environmental integration, shaping an environment where creativity and collaboration can thrive.

The structure stretches 33 meters in length and 8 meters in width, its form defined by a black bamboo frame supporting a fluid, undulating roof clad in ulin wood shingles. Locally sourced bamboo, reclaimed wood, and handcrafted terrazzo form the core palette, grounding the project in minimalism, sustainable design, and refined craftsmanship. Solid concrete walls anchor the building, while terrazzo floors and timber elements create a calm balance of mass and lightness, warmth and clarity.

The spatial arrangement is open and continuous, fostering a dynamic flow between communal areas and focused work zones. At the entrance, a model-making workshop establishes a tactile beginning to the design process. Beyond, the main workspace provides acoustic privacy while maintaining visual connection to the gardens. Custom-designed worktables and handmade bamboo pendant lights define the operative core, combining functionality with atmosphere.

As the building unfolds, it becomes increasingly open to the outdoors. A stone and wood table offers an informal meeting point, while the sunken “Zen Center” creates a setting for presentations, reflection, or quiet pause. At its far end, an open kitchen and long communal table invite rest, meals, and spontaneous dialogue, extending the architecture into daily rituals of togetherness.

Surrounded by tropical gardens that bring shade, breeze, and a living connection, Studio Lodtunduh demonstrates how architecture can support presence and creative expression. As our architecture studio, it is more than a workspace, becoming a place where ideas are shared, collaborations take form, and community is strengthened through daily rituals.
