Moon Yoga Shala is envisioned as an open-air pavilion that takes inspiration from the crescent form of the moon. The design explores the relationship between geometry, nature, and spirituality, creating an environment that is both functional for yoga practice and symbolic as a space for contemplation. Its distinctive structure is defined by large bamboo arches designed with the rep-rep technique, which enables the construction of fluid curves while achieving wide structural spans. These arches not only define the architectural identity of the Shala but also allow the space to remain open, airy, and filled with natural light.

The roof system, made of bamboo and wood, reinforces the use of natural and locally available materials, ensuring coherence with the surrounding landscape of Tepoztlán. The foundation is designed with a minimal intervention strategy: The structure rests directly on existing stones of the site, reducing environmental impact and emphasizing a respectful integration with the terrain.

The central open area is designed to accommodate up to 16 practitioners and one instructor, while the enveloping curvature creates a sense of protection and focus. At the same time, the design frames views of the natural setting, enhancing the meditative experience.

More than a physical shelter, Moon Yoga Shala is a proposal that seeks to enrich the yogic community by offering a space where body, mind, and environment connect. Architecture here becomes a bridge between functionality and spirituality, proposing a place where movement and stillness coexist in harmony under the symbolic presence of the moon.
