Portobello Villa

Perched atop a hillside in Bali, Portobello Mushroom Villa is a conceptual residence that explores how architecture can grow from the logic and elegance of natural forms. Inspired by the proportions of the portobello mushroom, the design translates its biomimetic qualities into a dwelling that offers both shelter and immersion in the landscape.

The roof, echoing the cap of the mushroom, extends as a protective canopy, its rounded form creating a sense of enclosure while opening toward expansive 180-degree views of the surrounding valley and forest. Beneath this curved shelter, the structural system fans out rhythmically, recalling the mushroom’s gills, and grounding the architecture in both organic geometry and spatial order.

Measuring 100 square meters, the villa is imagined as a retreat that balances intimacy with openness. The elevated floor plate lifts the interior above the hillside, enhancing airflow and strengthening the visual connection to nature. Interior spaces radiate outward from a central living area, framed by bamboo arches and enclosed by glass, allowing natural light to fill the dwelling throughout the day.

Beyond function, the villa represents a meditation on harmony between human habitation and natural patterns. By drawing directly from organic form, it demonstrates how architecture can create comfort, perspective, and inward connection through its alignment with the living world.
