Tea House

The Tea House in Ubud, Bali, was conceived as a space dedicated exclusively to tea ceremonies, a profoundly symbolic and spiritual act. The room is designed to be minimalist and in harmony with nature, allowing for a deeper connection with the ritual itself.

To support this function, the building was designed as one large, open, and expansive oval, enveloped by the lush natural landscape that surrounds it. This oval form invites a new intimacy, fostering a sense of unity with everything that surrounds it.

The roof, inspired by the surrounding mountains and local topography, mirrors the landscape’s distinct heights and slopes. Straight, interwoven elements create a cohesive, flowing form. Clad in flattened bamboo tiles, the roof gives the impression of a protective mantle, enveloping its occupants and exposing them to a new way of living.

The structure is supported by fifteen centimeter-diameter bamboo pillars that rise twelve meters above the ground, emerging from the rice fields. The interior feels open and tranquil, with a minimalist design that highlights the beauty of the bamboo. The floor is finished with bamboo splits, and the straight pillars optimize the views of the exterior. This exposed structure emphasizes a wall-less space, inviting the interior and exterior to function as a single entity.
