Wave Reception

Kaymana Reception, set on Uluwatu, Bali, takes its form from the first wave breaking against the coastline. The gesture is intentionally simple: a single curve that captures the immediacy of that motion and translates it into a soft, sheltering cocoon, one that echoes the emotion of standing before the ocean itself.
The structure opens itself to the surrounding landscape rather than enclosing it. Sightlines run through the building, allowing the lush vegetation beyond to filter into the interior and accompany guests along the path that leads them deeper into the project, toward their rooms.
Light moves through the space in shifting patterns, filtered by woven bamboo screens that soften the tropical sun and trace shadow lines across the floor as the day progresses.

This interplay of light and shadow gives the curved surfaces a constantly changing texture: smooth where the bamboo has been laminated and bent into form, rougher where raw fibers are left exposed to the touch.
The material palette is built primarily from bamboo, supported by steel. Laminated bamboo elements, shaped through controlled bending, are paired with steel reinforcement to achieve the long, uninterrupted curve of the reception’s roof, letting the structure feel both organic and engineered at once.
Positioned strategically within the site, Kaymana Reception places all villas within seconds of the pool, anchoring the arrival sequence before guests continue their journey through the layered landscape of the project.
